Deck description

A reimagining of the long discontinued Hanamaki hanafuda pattern, slightly modified for Koi-koi gameplay purposes, and with the gold and silver overprints removed. This pattern from Iwate prefecture features thin and delicate lines on the woodblock print. Colors were traditionally applied manually with a paintbrush, prioritizing speed over accuracy, resulting in a unique color style full of visible brush strokes, dots, and blobs of color that seem to ignore the placement of the woodblock pattern. Moreover, some elements from the "Musashino" hanafuda decks from the late 1700's were retained, such as the red Full Moon, the closed umbrella on the Rain Man card and the lack of a lightning storm motif on the Willow Chaff. Hidden Lore The Crescent Moon: One of the August Chaff cards feature a red crescent moon, which is treated as a Ribbon card in certain regional hanafuda games.
